OUR simple TWELVE STEP PROCESS

Buying a home can be a stressful process. Without a guide to help you along, constructing a home can be even more so. That’s why we've come up with a checklist to help make the process as easy as possible. With Stone Ridge the most important thing to remember is that you can choose how involved you want to be. Take a look at the list below to get an idea of the process, then let's get to know each other.

01

VISIT A  SPEC HOME

We always have homes under construction and some that have been recently finished. Visiting one of them (even if it’s a virtual tour) is a great way to get familiar with the quality and attention to detail that makes our homes great places to live. This is also a great opportunity to talk about what you like, what you need, and what you want to avoid in a new home. We’ll also be prepared to talk about various floor plans, customization, and lot choices.

02

CHOOSE  A PLAN AND A LOT

With a floor plan and a lot selected, it’s time to do some cost estimating. This is the time to work together to find the best balance between size, finishes, and cost.

03

LET'S GET THE BALL ROLLING

We’ve found a floorplan and a lot, we’ve made an estimate of the cost, and now it’s time to get the ball rolling. With a firm plan in place we can start selecting from specific product samples and color choices.

04

DIVING INTO  DETAILS

Behind the scenes we’re at work getting permits and arranging for the work of various subcontractors, from concrete to roofing and everything in between. This is also when we’re working alongside you to help with kitchen layout, cabinet choices, and countertops.

05

STONE, TRIM & FLOORING  TIME

At this point the foundation has been poured and the framing has started. This is when we focus on stone, door styles and trim color. Next it’s on to tile, hardwood, carpet and all the flooring.

06

LET'S SHINE SOME  LIGHT ON THINGS

Framing is now complete so HVAC will begin followed by plumber & then electrician. May have small meetings with HVAC or plumbers during this time to discuss locations of certain things but this is usually already noted on the floor plan. A meeting with lead electrician is always done though with myself & client. At this meeting we will go over outlet, media & tv locations.  Will also show where all other overhead lights will be located. At the end of this meeting I will provide a list of what we need for light to be hung at a later date after drywall & paint. From this list, client will know what we need to pick out for the home. I assist in this however client wants.

07

WALLS GO UP  AND FLOORS GO DOWN

We’re insulating now and that work will be followed by drywall contractors. When the drywall is done it’s painting time and then flooring.

08

DOWN TO THE DETAILS ROUND TWO

We like to let the finish carpenter have a day to get organized and learn the floorplan, then on day two we like to have the homowner meet the person responsible for the finishes they’ll be enjoying. This is the time to discuss some of the fancy stuff, like fireplace mantels, bookshelves, and other built-ins. We also work with the homeowner to choose bathroom mirrors, towel bars, and other fixtures.

09

HOOK 'EM UP

The finish carpenter is done now and it’s show-time again for the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical folks to install vent covers, toilets, faucets, and to get the dishwasher installed and wired.

10

TIME FOR THE  FINAL CLEAN

The carpet is down and the flooring is in, the painting is done and the contactors who work on the inside of the home are gone. Now it’s time to do the new home’s first deep cleaning (whether it’s springtime or not).

11

WORKIN'  OUTSIDE

We’ve been working on the outside of the home this whole time to install siding, walks, driveway, etc.  But now is when the finishing touches are put on all the work we’ve done along with grading and sodding the yard.

12

IT'S THE  FINAL COUNTDOWN

We’ve been staying in touch with lenders, the city inspectors, and others to make sure everyone’s ready for the big day when the loan will close and the keys will be handed over.

We look forward to the final walkthrough with the homeowner because we get to show off all the work that looks shiny-new, answer questions, review manuals, and talk about little details like the best way to remove screens so windows can be cleaned. The only bad part is that by now we’ve gotten to know each other pretty well, and this moment can feel like a goodbye. Don’t worry, we’re not going anywhere and if you need something we’re not far away.
